I cannot recommend Canine Scholars and Jason enough. Our history with them actually goes back 13 years, when I... impulsively adopted a couple of dogs while I was in college and right out of college. One of those dogs, Indy, turned out to be dog aggressive, and at one point I was very close to returning her because I simply didn’t know how to manage her behavior.Jason completely changed that for us. He helped me understand Indy’s behavior, recognize her limitations, and, most importantly, learn how to put her in situations where she could be successful. He was also realistic with me. Indy was never going to be a dog-park dog, and he didn’t promise that she would be. Instead, he helped us work toward a much more meaningful goal: allowing her to comfortably and safely be around the dogs belonging to our family and close friends.We always joked that Indy believed in quality over quantity when it came to her friendships. Because of what Jason and Canine Scholars taught us, Indy was able to live a long, happy, and low-stress life with our family. I will always be grateful for that.Fast forward 13 years, and we adopted a new puppy, Donut. It had been so long since we had a puppy that we had completely forgotten how much work they can be! Add in the fact that Donut is a Great Pyrenees, and all of those independent, stubborn Great Pyrenees traits came shining through.I reached back out to Jason, and one of the first things that impressed me was that after 13 years, he still remembered Indy.Donut went through training with Canine Scholars, and the difference has been incredible. Jason worked with her on everyday manners and commands like recall and “place.” Before training, getting Donut to come inside when called was nearly impossible. We would literally end up chasing a giant puppy around the yard trying to get her inside. Now, her recall is fantastic.She also walks beautifully on a leash, to the point that even my young daughters are able to walk her comfortably. For such a large dog, that gives us so much confidence and makes everyday life with her much easier.What I appreciate most about Jason is that his training isn’t about trying to turn every dog into the same type of dog. He understands their personalities, breeds, strengths, and limitations and teaches owners how to set their dogs up for success.Thirteen years and two very different dogs later, we are still incredibly happy with Canine Scholars. Jason had a huge impact on the life we were able to give Indy, and now he has helped us build the same kind of strong foundation with Donut.We continue to recommend Canine Scholars to our friends and family without hesitation. If you are looking for someone who truly understands dogs and cares about creating realistic, lasting results for both the dog and the family, I highly recommend Jason and Canine Scholars.read more

Amazing! I gave these guys a crazy, energetic, jumping doggy, and I got back still have my crazy and energetic doggy,... but only during play time. But walks, commands, and interaction with strangers…I now have a well disciplined doggy! UNBELIEVABLE! Two weeks for a lifetime of enjoyment!I even got her to jump up, sit, stay and smile 😊 on my Harley which she would NEVER have done before.read more

Highly recommend Canine Scholars. Super happy with the training and knowledge Jason provided. I had a high drive... Labrador Retriever puppy. He was about 6-7 months when I called (after 2 weeks of crying every day bc puppy blues are a real thing when you are not equipped with the right tools). My. Dog. Was. A. Lot. Jason walked us through leash pulling, bad behavior, bad habits and gave us the right tools to really help my dog thrive. I wanted to be able to walk my dog off leash with full confidence he would recall. I wanted to be able to take him into public and social settings. I wanted him to be polite and gentle with my 75 yr old parents. For us, it took about 10 sessions with Jason and a lot of practice, but I now have the dog I wanted. He is only 13 months and has improved so much. He’s wonderful outside on walks. He is confident and polite. We moved to a very large, very loud big city and he has adapted fabulously. He knows exactly what he needs to do when he’s instructed. Very happy with the training received.read more

There aren't enough stars to give Canine Scholars! We did their in-home training sessions with our American Bully,... T-Rex. They helped him build confidence, master commands and ultimately had him walking off leash at the end of our training together.Their ability to explain the training process and psychology was easy for us to understand how dogs process and think. Again, we can't say enough good things about their training and program!read more

We brought our Brittany, named Ruby, to Canine Scholars in October 2024 for their two week adult board and train. Ruby... was ~9 months old and we were having a lot of trouble raising and training a working dog, especially since she was also each of ours first dog! Ruby came back so well trained from Chris and the others at Canine Scholars and we genuinely had a sigh of relief.Chris has also been our go to “first responder” over the last year and a half whenever we have questions or concerns about Ruby’s training / personality / etc. With consistent training and using the techniques Chris taught us, her obedience keeps improving and it’s so fun to watch :)We’re planning to get a new puppy (another Brittany) within the next year or so and there’s no doubt we will be sending the new pup to Canine Scholars!! Jason is knowledgeable, patient, and... thorough!He helped us work through leash pulling, reactivity, and off leash training. He really took the time to understand our dog’s personality and our goals and was always patient with answering all of our questions (which there was many!).The results have been incredible and he is always willing to help when more questions come up.If you’re looking for someone who is professional, compassionate, and truly invested in your success, I highly recommend Jason. We have been so happy with the board and train services our dog received with canine scholars. Pretraining, walks were... getting nearly impossible due to constant pulling. Now, our dog walks perfectly with each member of our family, young kids included. Canine Scholars was recommended to me by a neighbor after I asked how and why her dog was so well behaved!Both Chris... (adult training) and Michael (puppy training) trained all three of our large breed dogs. We have been very pleased with each training session.The dogs have been well taken care of, well treated and returned to us in great shape. Even though it is training and work our dogs have 'enjoyed' their time away. This is evident by the dogs excitement when they have seen Chris and/or Michael weeks/months after training for boarding. More importantly though, the dogs are returned to us well trained and we are armed with tools and tips on how to reinforce and maintain the training at home.Highly recommend!!read more
